He was found curled up on the ground, barely moving, painfully thin, and suffering from a deep, open wound. At just five pounds, little Oliver looked as though he had nothing left to give. But he was still alive. And that was enough for us to fight for him.
At 1:30 AM, Miriam, one of our dedicated rescuers, received a desperate call about a tiny dog who appeared to be dying. She immediately sent us his photo, asking for permission to bring him into our care.
There was no hesitation. GO GET HIM.
The image was heartbreaking. Oliver's frail little body was curled up on the ground, his bones painfully visible beneath his skin. He was severely undernourished, incredibly weak, and suffering from a deep wound that suggested he had recently been attacked.
He barely attempted to move. We could only imagine how long he had been suffering, how frightened he must have been, and how many people may have passed him by.
We couldn't change what had happened to Oliver. But we could make sure he would never have to face it alone again.
Oliver was immediately brought into emergency veterinary care. His condition was extremely concerning. His tiny body was depleted, his wound required medical attention, and his weakness made every day a challenge.
Then came another frightening setback.
Oliver became increasingly lethargic and showed very little interest in food. His blood levels were guarded, and we began searching for another healthy dog who could potentially donate blood if a transfusion became necessary.
For a dog weighing barely five pounds, every complication is frightening. Every hour matters.
We watched, worried, hoped, and prayed.
Would his little body have enough strength to keep fighting?
OLIVER ATE!
After days of uncertainty, our brave little boy finally showed interest in food. He ate one evening, and then he ate again the following day!
To most people, a dog eating a meal might seem ordinary. But for Oliver, it was an extraordinary little victory.
A sign of hope. A reason to smile. Another chance to believe that this tiny fighter might overcome the unimaginable.
His recovery is far from over. He still needs medical monitoring, wound care, proper nutrition, and time to rebuild the strength his body has lost.
But Oliver has already taught us something powerful.
Never underestimate the will to live, even in the smallest and most fragile of creatures.
At Near & Far Animal Foundation, we are often faced with heartbreaking decisions. Emergency calls arrive at all hours, critical cases continue to mount, and veterinary expenses grow faster than our resources.
But when we look at Oliver, we don't see another bill.
We see a little life that matters.
We see a dog who was left suffering, yet somehow found the strength to survive long enough for help to arrive.
And we see a future that deserves to be filled with comfort, safety, love, and everything he has been denied.
We don't care if Oliver's recovery takes days, weeks, or months. We will celebrate every meal, every movement, every small improvement, and every milestone along the way.
We are not giving up on Oliver, because Oliver isn't giving up either.
Oliver's medical journey is ongoing, and his care comes at a time when our foundation is already carrying the financial burden of several other critical rescue cases.
We desperately need your help to continue providing the veterinary treatment, testing, nutrition, and supportive care he deserves.
Your donation, no matter how small, helps give Oliver something he almost lost that night: a chance at life.
